American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association was formed in 1997, as the result of a merger between the American Railway Engineering Association, American Railway Bridge & Building Association, Roadmasters & Maintenance-of-Way Association and the Communications & Signals division of the Association of American Railroads. AREMA’s membership includes a diverse group of railway and transit engineers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, academia, federal and state governmental employees and others for the development and advancement of both technical and practical knowledge and recommended practices pertaining to the design, construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure.

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) is the trade association for the entire rail supply industry. RSI's members provide goods and services to our nation's freight and passenger railroads. RSI is the railway supplier voice in Washington, DC and lobbies on behalf of railway suppliers and their customers in Washington, DC and the states. RSI technical committees serve various segments of the railway supply industry including new freight car builders, freight car leasing companies, coupler manufacturers, communication and signaling, maintenance-of-way and passenger. America's railway suppliers represent a $23 billion/year industry supporting 90,000 American workers.

Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association was created in 1965 by the merger of the Association of Track and Structure Suppliers and the National Railway Appliances Association, two long-standing organizations in the railroad maintenance-of-way industry. REMSA represents companies and individuals who manufacture or sell maintenance-of-way equipment, products, and services, or are engineers, contractors and consultants working in construction and/or maintenance of railroad transportation facilities. REMSA members constitute a large part of the maintenance-of-way industry.

Railway Systems Suppliers, Inc. is a trade association serving the communication and signal segment of the rail transportation industry. The association was originally incorporated in 1966, with the name changed to its present in 1972. The association represents companies of all sizes who manufacture, represent, and/or service communication, signal and related supplies to the industry.
